Ron Howard may be smarter than I thought.  It turns out that he's decided to cast Frank Langella in the screen adaptation of the play "Frost/Nixon" opposite Michael Sheen.  Langella and Sheen play the two characted on the stage and have both received excellent reviews.  It only made sense to cast them both in the film version.  Originally, Howard wanted Warren Beatty to play the role according to some reports.
