Philip Martin, film critic for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, speaks from New York where's he's been at the Tribeca Film Festival.  He saw Arkansan and Central High grad Jeff Nichols' film "Shotgun Stories" and has some very positive things to say about it.  He also saw "Killer of Sheep," the recently released Charles Burnett film about life in the Watts area of Los Angeles.  The film was made 30 years ago, but only now were the distributors able to work out a deal on all of the music.  The reviews for "Killer of Sheep" are oustanding.  It screens at the Little Rock Film Festival May 17-20.

Unfortunately, Nichols film isn't part of that line-up, but no matter.  I'm certain it will have a Little Rock showing before too long.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
