With the highly successful first annual Little Rock Film Festival behind us and Cannes coming to a close later this week, we can return to the blockbuster summer, and I can sit in anticipation of the films I've been reading and writing about for the last week.  Box office numbers continue to explode (the debut of the third installment of the green ogre series "Shrek" garnered an impressive $122 million at the box office this weekend).  Up next: "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" opens on Friday.

Not to be forgotten is the latest film from Ashley Judd"Bug" from director William Friedken ("The Exorcist", "The French Connection") which also opens on Friday.   David Edelstein of New York Magazine writes, "Bug belongs to Judd, maybe the most unsung great actress in American movies. She has made herself look convincingly dissipated—puffy, baggy-eyed, almost used-up, yet still very, very beautiful. No matter how heightened the dialogue, there isn’t a line that doesn’t sound as if it’s coming out of her head."

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
