Apologies for being away from the blog.  I've been out of town and away from laptop.  I'm still out of town, but I've found a wireless connection.

I'm pleased to report that it was a big opening week for Movies in the Park.  The free outdoor film series opened last Wednesday with "The Breakfast Club."  More than 700 people turned out for the show.  "Jaws" is next in line.  The films are shown every Wednesday at the Riverfest Amphitheater in the River Market.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

One of the booths at this week's Ark-La-Tex Medical Cannabis Expo was hosted by the Arkansas Hemp Association, a trade group founded to promote and expand non-intoxicating industrial hemp as an agricultural crop in the state. AHA Vice President Jeremy Fisher said the first licenses to grow experimental plots of hemp in the state should be issued by the Arkansas State Plant Board next spring.
  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
