Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe" is a tasty musical buffet of the best Beatles songs ever written (33 to be exact).  The film chronicles the life of a wealthy suburban couple, their children and an illegal immigrant from Liverpool who finds love and tragedy in the midst of protest over the Vietnam war in New York.  It stars Evan Rachel Wood, one of the finest young actresses working today, and she's every bit as impressive as she was in "Down in the Valley" and "Thirteen."  Taymor, known best for her stage adaptation of "The Lion King," also directed Salma Hayek to an Oscar nomination in "Frida."  "Across the Universe" won't see any Oscar nominations for its actors, or anything for that matter, but it's an interesting, visually pleasant film.
