I'm in New York City with the snow.  I was here for partial fun and now business so I've been limited in my free time.  I caught "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" the exceptional Romanian film from director Cristian Mungiu.  Yes, it is a total shame it was shut out of the Best Foreign Film nominees.  Tonight, I'm hoping to see "Starting Out in the Evening" starring Frank Langella. It got some late awards attention, especially for Langella, and has set him up as an early frontrunner for a Best Actor nod for "Frost/Nixon."  If not that, perhaps "Cassandra's Dream," the latest from Woody Allen.

I can't say there's much movie news out there.  The strike is over.  Yay!  The Oscars will happen.  Everyone out there seems to think that the awards could be turned upside down.  Ellen Page could win!  Tilda Swinton will win!  "No Country for Old Men" is too violent . . .bring on "Atonement"!  Hell if I know.

For all you theater buffs, I saw "November," the new play by David Mamet starring Nathan Lane.  Brilliant.  Absolutely brilliant.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
