Re: “Trump declares ban on transgender people in military

Even Orrin Hatch...

"I dont think we should be discriminating against anyone. Transgender people are people, and deserve the best we can do for them. I look forward to getting much more information and clarity from our military leaders about the policy the President tweeted today."…

Re: “Trump declares ban on transgender people in military

Ref Trump is only listening to his generals.

"A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, refused to answer questions about what Trump's tweeted announcement means for the current policy, including whether transgender people already serving in the military will be kicked out."

"Call the White House," he said."…

Re: “Trump declares ban on transgender people in military

razor - 22 years in the Army.

Shared an off-post apartment with a gay fellow officer for two years back in the '70s. Before Reagan started the gay witch hunt. The Army's unofficial policy in the post-Vietnam era was "don't ask, don't tell". Which my father says was the same policy the Air Force had post-WW II.

Re: “Tom Cotton fights legal immigration. I see it at work.

Someone should ask Cotton how he intends to deal with the declining US birth rate if he is wanting to reduce immigration.

"A country's birthrate is among the most important measures of demographic health. The number needs to be within a certain range, called the replacement level, to keep a population stable so that it neither grows nor shrinks. If too low, there's a danger that we wouldn't be able to replace the aging workforce and have enough tax revenue to keep the economy stable."…

Re: “How Neil Gorsuch screwed up dissent in Arkansas birth certificate case

Gorsuch is only following Scalia's example of failing to understand (or choosing to ignore) the simplest facts of a case from Arkansas in pursuit of a "higher" ideological goal.

"Consider also, indeed especially, Scalia's false concept of science. He equates creation and evolution because creationists can't explain life's beginning, while evolutionists can't resolve the ultimate origin of the inorganic components that later aggregated to life."…

Re: “The strangulation of Obamacare

"It is that scream, that deep existential lament, that will awaken us to the ways we are guilty of claiming to love God while forgetting the poor, refusing the refugee, building walls, banning the stranger, and praying and worshiping in insular and segregated sacred spaces filled with racism, sexism, patriarchy, xenophobia, homophobia and indifference."…
