Re: “The racial divide

I realize this is an old story, but I thought it important to update the story.

Sharon Sanders, who was the white Finance Director for the School District, is the lady who was demoted to the Food Services Department. Sanders filed suit for racial discrimination in federal court alleging that the African American members discriminated against her.

She won her lawsuit on July 15, 2010 in federal court in Helena-West Helena. A unanamous jury found that the actions of the School Board were motivated by race, and awarded Sanders $78,825 in damages against both the School District and the four African American members of the Board.

The lawyer representing the Board and the School Board members was John W. Walker, a noted Little Rock civil rights attorney; Sanders was represented by a little known Marion lawyer.
