Re: “Tuesday: Open line and the daily news roundup

Jim, I've always been kinda curious about his bachelorhood. Still - If asked what my favorite book ever is, it would have to be "Dog of the South." Norma seems to hold her own in the book. As does Mattie Ross, who ends up a one armed spinster.

Re: “Tuesday: Open line and the daily news roundup

Thanks, Durango, some of those sound more up my alley than others, but I'm always looking for good books. Read three decent novels already this year. "Norwood," though, is a reminder of certain words that are no longer really acceptable, and I am curious if anyone has any thoughts on Portis' routine use of one in particular. I'm not complaining, just really curious about never reading anything about it in reviews and stuff. It's just the kind of thing that has always jumped out while reading it. OTOH it fits the character, setting, and times. Lake when my mom was growing up in Pike County, where she said it wasn't used in a derogatory way, it was just part of the common language. An example that comes to mind is what she grew up calling what we know as black-eyed Susans. Your list seems much more enlightened, and I particularly am interested in A Peralta for Kizzy and Dearest Letty. The only one on the list I've previously read is Pissing in the Snow.

Sometimes there's a book you want to read but you just can't get through it? Even if you try again. And again. But then, one day, just like that carrot that finally comes up, you can read it, and it's delightful? I am finally reading "Norwood!"

Re: “Tom Cotton blistered for lying for Trump; silence of GOP politicians also made statements yesterday

I have a question - If someone cannot recall what was said, how is they can say that a particular thing was not said?

Someone needs to ask Trump/Cotton/Perdue - on the record - what the difference is between a shit hole and a shithouse.

Re: “Memory refreshed, Tom Cotton now disputes that Trump made "shithole" comments

So the story is that he said *shithouse* not "shithole."

It makes such a difference, right Tom Cotton????

Another subtle-ish dig at Cotton. And Cheetolini. From Lindsey Graham:
