This week, the Arkansas Times falls back on that oldest of old chestnuts: a recipe issue. Being who we are, of course, we had to put a twist on that; namely, the fact that most of the recipes you'll find in these pages are courtesy of people who have shuffled off to that great kitchen in the sky, where the Good Lord is always whipping up new things in his toque and apron, running the great mixers of genetics and time, maybe presenting the batter-dipped beaters and bowls to Jesus for a lick down.

Re: “Ghost ride

Just to clarify. The river actually runs north and south .. not east and west. So Ma was from the east side and Pa from west side. Yeah.. I know to.. used to think that way as a kid until it was actually pointed out to me. Yes the city of North Little Rock sits north of Little Rock but that's a separate thing from the river. We all know what you mean so just keep putting out good stuff and we'll follow anyway.

Re: “Saltgrass does upscale casual well

Glad you liked it. We both didn't care for it at all. Steak was a cheap piece typical for chain house steaks. Ribeye pounded out thin?? Chicken Fried steak with a cheese sauce over it. Yuck. Mac and Cheese loaded with liquid smoke and the mac and cheese was dried out it had been sitting so long under heat lamps I suppose. It was so awful so I got another side which was the garlic mashed potatoes. They were gummy like either instant or over whipped. It had little to no salt and pepper and barely any garlic. The only redeeming thing we had was the little fried onions. We won't be going back. Longhorn is far better... at least the one on Shackelford is.

Re: “Goodbye to all that

We hope your next adventure into retirement or whatever you may want to call it is full of love, laughter and peace. I am saddened but certainly understand the loss of newspapers. I would pay the price if it weren't for old age and fixed incomes. Have fun... we have enjoyed your writings and we'll miss you. Have fun and smile. Thanks...

Re: “Giving up the ghost

You sound like me. I just don't understand how "christians" can be so violent and with so much hatred. Yep.. I was a good little christian girl until I started to think for myself, learn and listen. I never condemn someone for their beliefs but tell them you aren't religious and you get all kinds of grief. Thank you Mr. Observe for your words....... Makes one feel vindicated sort of. Thank you for all your writings.

Re: “No one attends public comment meeting on proposed concrete security for Ten Commandments monument

Stop holding meetings when people have to be a work and you might get responses. People who are handicapped may not be able to get there either. Also how about making sure it's publicized well enough that the public knows there is going to be a meeting. Then also include a letter writing time for people who can't get there. Time to be fair. Oh yeah.. we're trying to push something that is totally opposite of "separation of church and state" so lets do like government does and slip it in under the cover of darkness. Now where are you going to put the Satanic monument?

Re: “It's official: Chad Morris to be paid $3.5 million a year to coach Razorbacks

Haters are going to hate. Gotta give any coach a chance because.. we are Arkansas. Last thing we would need is someone within Arkansas. You have to spread your wings to fly. You have to take chances to be successful. You have to be innovative, a forward thinker, someone not afraid to take chances and this guy seems to be on that track. There was non worse team in the US than SMU when he took over and they are now headed to a bowl game. You can't judge a coach who inherited the Sisters of Mercy and has to play that lot to win right out of the bag but he sure turned them around. Give the fellow a chance.. just because he wasn't your pick doesn't mean we shouldn't back him all the way until proven one direction or the other. And you wonder why we can't get a coach and players.. think about it!!!
