Re: “Storage unit buy yields Damien Echols' journals

I came late to the party, but one of my pet peeves is corruption in state government. Another pet peeve is being lied to. I read an article (KAIT) about Judge Dan Stidham and Greene County clerk Rhonda Thomas wanting to hang signs around peoples necks if they wrote a hot check. This was in the wake of Sherwood's Hot Check Division being sued for years of running a Debtors Prison and Jefferson County's Judge Kim Bridgforth praising Judge Milas Hale's aggressive money making tactics. I read Damien Echols book Life After Death and Devil's Knot by Mara Leveritt only last year and that led to research on Judge Dan Stidham, Judge David Burnett, later state senator, attorney John Fogelman, later Judge Fogelman and Kent Arnold. What replaced Senator Burnett was Dave Wallace, who I find to be lacking in human compassion and ethical business practices based on his own comments. I concluded that politicians in Arkansas are not interested in finding the truth and they will lie and sacrifice people's lives to cover their own mistakes or to get what they want. The prejudice mob fear of a small Arkansas town toward tattoos, rock music and the Wiccan faith allowed dishonest, unethical judges and attorneys to grab an opportunity to be famous and further their careers if they pushed through a quick, trial that was based on prejudice. I was appalled at the evilness inside of people that would let them obstruct and cover up, for 18 years, any attempt to correct the errors made in the trial. People were apathetic and did not care that the wrong people were locked up. They did not want to know the truth. This could have been me, my children, or my neighbor that was locked up for life or sentenced to die. That is why people need to take an interest in the character, prejudice and past deeds of the politicians they are electing to office. There are some wonderful people that live in Arkansas, but few of them were involved in the social injustice that was carried out by Arkansas elected officials, whose deceit will be a part of history. There will be no statues in the town square for David Burnett or John Fogelman.

Re: “Sunday and another open line

As usual, I am outraged at the Arkansas legislature and the bizarre, anti-choice laws they passed in the spring session. I am thinking of taking a part-time job at ACLU-Arkansas. I figure they will be stable employment, since our state government is determined to endanger women's lives so they can get reelected. Pastor Ronnie Floyds political organization wants more babies to brainwash because his voter base is shrinking. I wonder why Governor Hutchinson has so much money in his campaign fund this early in the year? Did he deliver on promises made to his political masters? I do not feel inclined to work, pay taxes and sacrifice my health so Arkansas politicians can get reelected and have good health insurance funded by the taxpayer, while they take away other peoples health insurance. The only way to get corruption out of state government is for the people to elect new people into office. I wonder where the Arkansas government spent the GIF this year? I am sure they consulted attorney Travis Story, who is very smart and is good at protecting assets. Probably not another bible college.

Re: “Sunday and another open line

To my surprise, I find that I will miss Spicy. McCarthys impersonation of Sean Spicer on SNL made America laugh again. He didn't talk long and mangled whatever he was trying to say, but I looked forward to his attempts to lie and tell the truth at the same time. Sarah Sanders stays on stage longer, uses bigger words, but still manages to say nothing of substance.
CBB and Olphart, recover soon. Olphart get discharged as soon as possible. Hospitals do not have an environment that lets you rest and recover. I consider the Sunday afternoon social gatherings of church people in hospitals, a set back to a sick person's recovery. While the sick are pale, weak, flat on their backs, with no make-up, uncombed hair and wearing a skimpy hospital gown, they are bombarded by church people dressed in their finest, wearing hats that are so large, they can barely fit in the hospital room.
SP Thanks for the great article on Mattie and the amazing things he did in his short time on earth. His life undermines any excuses I make for indulging in apathy or self-pity.

Re: “Little Rock native, a Senate candidate in Arizona, attacked for religion

The hateful, ugly posts do not represent American values or come from people who believe in the U.S. Constitution. It would be wrong of me to automatically hate all Republicans because of the ultra conservative capitalists extremists in their party. It would be easier for me to paint all Republicans with the same brush, but it would also be unfair for me to do so. Their party has become is so divided these days. Three Republican women in Congress refused to vote for repeal with no replacement, because they had working brains that were not blinded by hate and could see that repeal only would cause a health care crisis across the country. It was decent of Republican Jeff Flake to post his opposition to the hateful posts.

Re: “Turn to baseball

Vanessa said it best "Baseball at its best suspends time." A good childhood memory I have of my dad is when we were in the car he was always fiddling with the radio, trying to pull in a baseball game or he would fall asleep on the sofa watching baseball on TV. I remember my brother trading baseball cards with other neighborhood kids and Little League games. Today, my brother refuses to read about current politics, instead, he goes straight to the sports statistics on the internet, drives to St. Louis to see the Cardinals play and takes his son to Travelers games. Years ago the sports commentator announced the plays in a hum drum monotone voice. There is something comforting to me about hearing a baseball game playing in the background, even if you aren't interested in the game. To me it means, at that moment, everything is ok and normal in the world.

Re: “The resistance continues from Arkansas

Elvis is dead??? What a nice thing to say about women plainjim. I don't think it is necessary to arrest protesters, because it another example of the government ignoring the U.S. Constitution and stomping all over civil rights and that is a dangerous sign. I hope someone with money is supporting the protesters and posting bail for them. We should not make it easy for the state or federal government to take away people's civil and human rights. We should annoy the hell out of the people whose salaries, health insurance, and privileges we pay for. We should not have to tell our government that sick children should have access to medical care. Most human beings know that.

Re: “The midweek open line

I am hoping Donald's public temper tantrum about Beauregard Sessions III recusing himself from Russia Investigation is donalds juvenile way of saying he will fire him soon. I hope it is soon, before Beau does anymore damage with his obsessive belief that he can raise the South again. I think McConnell's strange secret meetings behind closed doors to draft the Senate GOP Trumpcare plan was for show. Distract and Disrupt. I don't think he expected it to pass. He can't be that dumb. He is a snake and may resurrect a repeal or a plan next week or next month. I guess my point is that I can't believe Congress is as stupid as they are behaving.
