Re: “City promises crackdown on yard parking

We have been cited 3 times for "parking in the yard." Just FYI the "front yard" and "side yard" for folks who live on a corner may not park on the side of your house. We set up two different appointments with our code enforcement officer to come show us what we can and can't do. He was a no show/no call for both appointments.

According to planning we have three options. Park in our back yard which is legal. Park a block away since the streets around our house are not maintained by the city and too narrow. Or we can construct or pour gravel in our yard which is extremely environmentally unfriendly.

Meanwhile across the street our neighbor parks his SUV and other car blatantly in the front yard and has not received a ticket to date. There is uneven enforcement of this law. There are faulty structures, open view drug deals, trash, dogs running loose, etc all over my neighborhood. Our code enforcement officer is lazy and unprofessional.

Someone needs to bring a lawsuit against the city. The updated code violates the right to due process and forces residents to do things with their property they may not financially be able to do.

I went to court today to pay the fines and the people I spoke with were all confused about what exactly they had done wrong.

In my eyes the city is the nuisance. They care not that mine and my roommate's cars were vandalized in the last year causing us 600$ upwards but instead come by and randomly slap us with fines with no direction of how to remedy costing us yet more money.

We have parked in these spots for 6+ years with never a warning or any indication it was wrong until now.

No wonder people want to move out of the city.
