A look back at Barbara Graves

In the nearly 40 years the Times has been in print, we've changed formats and frequency, used at least five different logos, run through a gang of editors and kicked a habit of using women with come-hither looks to illustrate all of our cover stories. Since we launched in 1974, nearly every thing about the publication has changed. One of the few exceptions? This year's winner for Best Lingerie, Barbara Graves Intimate Fashions. The underthings and swimwear shop has been an advertiser from the beginning, and while the Times' illustrations may be more staid, Barbara Graves ads continue to be alluring. We wouldn't be surprised to learn that there are longtime readers out there who've enjoyed the store's ads more than any other part of the Times.

My colleagues John Ray and Jesse Bacon and I estimate, in the first analysis of its kind for the 2018 election season, that the president's waning popularity isn't limited to coastal cities and states. The erosion of his electoral coalition has spread to The Natural State, extending far beyond the college towns and urban centers that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. From El Dorado to Sherwood, Fayetteville to Hot Springs, the president's approval rating is waning.
