Re: “Hutchinson asks for HB 1228 to be changed

As much of the analysis of Indiana's law pointed out, what makes the recent iterations of RFRA bills so pernicious is that:
1)unlike the federal law which carves out limited exemptions for religious minorities like Native Americans, Amish, Shiks, etc., recent RFRAs were designed to empower large, powerful religious groups with a carte blanche protections to discriminate against whomever they wish,
2) they expand the protections from interactions with the Government to any private individual or corporation, and
3) neither IN nor AR have state-wide LGBT protections to mitigate against discriminatory practices. Worse yet, AR cities can't create business/queer safe havens with local ordinances due to this years earlier homophobic law

As a young gay man, I'm disgusted by how our state's GOP is driving our state economically and socially backwards just like the one-party Democrats did during the 1950s and 60s . If the Governor is sincere that he wants to prevent discrimination, then he should propose state-wide protections for sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. I'm not optimistic.
