The 2nd Amendment was intended to insure that a tyrannical government could never again oppress its people, at least not for long. It gives us the chance, indeed the duty, to rise up and overthrow a government made illegal by itself ignoring and abusing our inalienable, natural rights.

Perhaps because it is a right has never been exercised, is why you discount it so easily. The 2nd is the right that protects all the other rights; those enumerated in the Bill of Rights and those not stated, but guaranteed by the 9th Amendment.

I still believe voting is the best way to get the gov't we want. We are a long way from having to defend ourselves from a truly oppressive gov't (arguably because of our 2nd Amendment right). But, if they ever abolish the 2nd and do come take our rights. I hope they kick your door down first; and maybe then, you'll be the first realize what you gave up.
