This is an old thread, but I occasionally think about Matt. It was a tragedy to be sure, but the poster who said his friends weren't around when he needed them was seriously misguided. There were plenty who wanted to help, but his alcoholism alienated everyone.

His first wife - he got black out drunk and sleep with her best friend, and got caught. It ended the marriage though he regretted it.

He had a girlfriend when I met him, and cheated on her with me, then cheated on me with her. When he died he was engaged yet had an ad on the personals. So, forgive us if we weren't exactly rallying around him in his "time of need". No one knew he was going to get himself shot, but plenty of us suffered because of his alcoholism, cheating and lies. (And using people while he was unemployed)

I like to think he would have been very different without the booze.
