Re: “Pilot faulted in plane crash

Basic flight skills.
As a 4000 hour instructor, I can not emphasize enough the importance of conducting an appropriate preflight checklist that will always, without exception, include a weight and balance calculation, insight as to required runway lengths, weather, performance and any other information pertaining to the safety of a proposed flight. I can't tell you tbout the countless hours that I have spent teaching soft field take off technique, but before you go, the aircraft must be in a condition that will enable a safe pilot operation and flight.

We teach this over and over again and drill the importance of these types of pre flight tasks to keep flying safe, enjoyable and as uneventful as possible, not just to hear ourselves talk.

This is what happens as a result of not complying and it is really ashame as the pilot and other victims of this avoidable crash would still be with us today. I hate to hear of these types of accidents but I use these examples with my students and they provide The energy for me to keep on drilling' and perhaps saving lives in the process.
