Re: “State interpreter unqualified, report says

This entire situation truly saddens and upsets me at the same time. The reason it upsets me is because I am currrently seeking work as a Sign Language Interpreter. I do not apply for a job unless I meet the required expectations. If in fact I do, then I do NOT expect to be overlooked by someone who does NOT meet those expectations. My simple question to those who made this awful decision is would you be comfortable if you were Deaf/Hard of Hearing in the position you are currently in with an unskilled and unqualified interpreter? Its an unfortunate lack of professionalism, ethics and respect for the consumers that are serviced through ARS and it should not be tolerated. I am happy to see interpreters and consumers speak out about this issue and hopefully by doing so we can spiral it into Deaf awarness for the entire hearing population. Hopefully with a better understanding of the Deaf community and education on how to service/interact with individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing these situations will lessen.
