Re: “CORRECTION: Little Rock mayor deserves 'comparable pay'

Lee Leffingwell in Austin, Texas makes around 75k. To simplify things, Austin added as many residents as Little Rock has total between 2000 and 2012. To pay el Marko six figures is an insult to humanity in a city that has to directly subsidize commercial real estate construction.

Re: “Local stuff in local boy Jeff Nichols' 'Mud'

Most of the posters seemed to be of Little Rock shows. I'm 100% sure I saw a Substance/Chino Horde poster, and some references on those to the corner of 7th and Chester (be it Vino's or a predecessor).

Re: “Guess who wrote that anti-regulation bill that would stop zoning rules in Lake Maumelle watershed?

Eagle View Lane and Highway 10 looks like a really nice place to put a hog farm in. I bet the neighbors there would love it.

Re: “Metroplan releases video on light rail study

Even as a fan of rail transport, let me state this. Not happening. Austin, Texas's MetroRail system, a commuter rail line built on existing tracks with no underground portions and very spartan stations, cost couple hundred million to build/buy trains/etc and 15 mil a year to run. This is probably a 500+ million dollar project as designed at least, more since it's involving a large number of tunnels, most of which can't be cut and cover but actually have to be bored.

If you want a worthwhile rail system, figure out how to get commuters from Conway/Cabot/Benton towards downtown.

Re: “Beware Republicans bearing gifts

Look at Texas: all a pipeline company has to do to gain "common carrier" status and access to eminent domain powers is check a box on the form they file at the Railroad Commission (which doesn't regulate railroads ironically) when they file for the permit.

Re: “The morning report — drug testing, sexual discrimination

Lord Brown of Russellville rides again. Biggest scumbag in Arkansas higher education by a distance. He's only smart enough to make sure he doesn't pull a Lu and break a big law, he keeps his screwups to civil actions. Of course, the toothless board of trustees at the school seem afraid to let the head administrator go no matter how many time he's gotten the institution sued for various issues. Most of them are his handpicked lackeys anyway that Beebe appoints.

Re: “Thursday night line

Recent Bob Brown blow ups include probably mis-stating the truth to the Lege about why a faculty member/dean with 41 years at Tech "retired". Bobby Brown is an Econ professor by trade (often accused of ignoring lib arts to the gain of business/engineering) so he's a equal opportunity jerk.
