Re: “VIDEO: Occupy LR planning meeting, part 2

Since the writing of this article, we have actually gotten a lot of these kinks ironed out. The facilitators grouped together after the meeting and had many of the same concerns as those I see voiced here. We had another meeting on Tuesday, turn out was not as vast. Initially, the meeting started much like the one on Monday, until a few proposals were made to aid in efficiency. We pushed through several proposals that kept being tabled; things that we feel were fairly crucial. Yes, a time and place to march is important. But, we're not in this just for a single march. Many of us want to see this continue and expand. This is why we required committees. A small group of people should not be making all the decisions for everyone else. Why vote on what time to march? Well, I remember it being proposed that we meet at 6AM! While that may have never really happened, what if a few other "leaders" backed that and just went with it??? The OccupyLR movement, and the people that are facilitating are working hard in maintaining an open and translucent structure. Yes, this is hard to maintain. Yes, there is often confusion and chaos. We now have committees, and in some cases, I believe sub-committees that will now handle a lot of the finer points, such as handling apparel for donation reasons or organizing clean up groups. I, personally, have read this article a few times. I welcome the criticism. I love to build from my past failures. I can not say everyone else in this movement does, and to me, in this case, I find it beautiful.

Another note, I saw a comment on not seeing any "black people". This has been a mild concern for some of us. Others are not too perturbed. In honesty, we have several minorities that are not only putting forth their ideas and concerns, but are also helping in other ways. I saw a much larger minority turn out at the meeting on Tuesday. Also, you'll find that it has been suggested that everyone bring a friend who is a different sex, race, or creed from themselves. This movement is not a racist movement, and I feel some would be offended to even know it has been called that.
