Re: “French Hill: the pope's man from 2nd District

I'm a practicing cradle Catholic who celebrates weekly the Mass and I also go to confession regularly. I also say the rosary and love everything about being a Catholic. I do pray for my enemies and try to love everyone as Jesus loves. Bishop Taylor is my Bishop. French Hill goes to my church and so I know first hand what a good person he is because I've seen it. Many of you may be understandably confused about my faith and have already made your decision about French Hill. I proudly voted for French Hill. Let me first untie some of your knotted thinking about Catholics.

First of all, many practicing Catholics are much more conservative in thought and action including our votes and we adhere to the core teachings of the church on everything. There are many who claim to be Catholic but are really no longer practicing and that is sad to me.

There ARE things that we Catholics can disagree with our Bishop and our Pope on and these are matters of policy, but never matters of CORE TEACHINGS. For example, French Hill can disagree with how to RESOLVE the immigration matter with the Bishop and be perfectly fine as a Catholic and still receive communion. That is a policy issue. Abortion is different. No policy could ever make outright abortion OK. As a practicing Catholic, French Hill will stand against policies that promote this evil. Nancy Pelosi, also a "Catholic", has publicly stood against the church on this by supporting the HHS mandate. Bishop Taylor (and the Catholic Bishops) is against the HHS mandate because of the threat to religious liberty in our belief that abortion is wrong: http://031331b.netsolhost.com/blog1/2012/02/01/bishop-of-little-rock-responds-to-hhs-mandate/

As for PRACTICING homosexuality, this is against our Catholic faith and a core belief. Even the Pope cannot change that and so you can just forget it! Jesus founded the church and not even the Pope can change our core beliefs. He is trying to appeal to the world as a lover of Christ and his people and invite those separated by hurt to the table, but to leave the sinful behaviors behind in order to live a full life in Christ. He could surprise me and go suddenly wacky, but he's human too. There are many Catholic homosexuals who live holy lives without practicing the behavior. Here's one: Hudson Byblow.

Take a look at our Catechism too from this link: http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe/index.cfm and this is what we will always believe and even the Pope won't be able to change it. Not even any of his liberal theologians. The church endures in time because these are truths instituted by Jesus. The Catholic Church's teachings will not change thank God. Glad you like our Pope! Maybe now you can be hopefully more informed about the Catholic faith. Praying for all of you to be more civil with one another and tolerant of other faiths like mine and with people like French Hill who is truly a good person! Christ's peace!

First of all, many practicing Catholics are much more conservative in thought and action including our votes and we adhere to the core teachings of the church on everything. The link above by someone that shows more Catholics favor birth control is so false!! The Arkansas Catholic broke it down in one of their issues. Lots of people claim Catholic but no longer practice.
