  • Equal rights for gay people imperiled by Arkansas judicial politics

John Lyon, writing for Stephens Med ia, makes clear what's afoot in Sen. Jason Rapert's little demagoguery at the Legislative Council last week with his resolution decrying Judge Chris Piazza's marriage equality ruling. It's all about intimidating the Arkansas Supreme Court. And emerging judicial politics throw quite a wrinkle in this.

  • Louisville's Kenton Buckner will be Little Rock's next police chief

Kenton Buckner, currently the assistant police chief in Louisville, Ky., is going to be Little Rock's next police chief. The official announcement came about an hour after we were tipped to the news. Buckner goes to work June 30 on City Manager Bruce Moore's belief that he'll excel at "citizen engagement."

Re: “How Little Rock cares for its homeless

I personally think the numbers are higher than you are talking. The committee has not even bothered for two years? We are talking about thousands homeless how are they taking census when the homeless are not there to respond? Granted there are a few soup kitchens and you all are throwing money into day resources. Most all shelters is a place to sleep and then back on the streets until another night, and then your lucky if there is room in these places you speak of to sleep again the next night. I think its great what they do, but it is not solving the problem of homelessness, and sitting around for two years doing nothing and knowing the problem is so bad in this town is ridiculous. I often wonder do they think of the way homeless have to survive and could any one of them do the same. I think not! Maybe go sleep around back alleys and then understand. But yet here we have corporations running in here tearing down neighborhoods to put their high dollar condos on when the state could be fixing its own problem of the homeless by refurbishing the places that are here. The condos may be good for the rich but as usual the poor pays that price. Why keep throwing money in to give people scraps when you have the power to give them a place to hang their hats? I do not have anything bad to say about river city, this is strictly about the people who claim to want change. You have to want change in order to get change, there is no time to sit around thinking about it. Two years? Come on that's two years that the problem has become worse. Help by doing something that helps all homeless, not just the few that can get into shelter every so often. Because I notice that was not in print, Shelters are great for the homeless except you never know if you can get into one. As I say talk to the homeless direct there is a lot more to this story you can only get from them.
