Re: “UPDATE: Lt. Gov. Mark Darr commutes today by State Police

Remember the many detailed reports the Democrat-Gazette published about the potentially illegal use of state vehicles by state employees and office-holders, detailing every penny of misused funds? I do not find anything recently about Darr, or the double-dipping of his Kelly. Am I overlooking something?

Re: “Setting the Dem-Gaz straight

The Dem-Gaz propagandists never learns anything new. Here are some old Media Watch columns setting the Dem-Gaz record straight, in particular their repeated false claims that Reagan reduced the deficit:………

Re: “The Tom Cotton archives: He started young as a liberal basher

Max, this is the same column that was already quoted and discussed. It's the same column in which Cotton wrote that "connecting classrooms and libraries to the Internet is a horrible idea".…

It was already pointed out that it was a bag of deliberate, mean-spirited lies:

"As it turns out, Cotton's article is not just a poorly written partisan rant, it is also factually completely baseless. He claims that the Clinton administration in 1998 started levying a federal tax on long distance telephone service, a tax that was not authorized by Congress, in order to subsidize Internet access for public schools and libraries. 30 seconds of google search show that the "tax" in question is the Universal Service Fund (USF) which was authorized in the Telecommunications Act of 1996. (…)" (arkansasmediawatch)

When you really have to quote right-wing extremist rants, at least fact-check them. Anybody can see the partisan hatred in those tirades of Cotton. They are hard to top. But this is exactly what he gets elected for. It seems reckless to me to just quote this stuff for the fun of it without also doing journalistic due diligence and without any semblance of analysis. Those among us who care about substance at least get some relevant information out of it. And liberals need to learn to take Cotton et al's extremism seriously. He means every word he writes.

Liberals need to learn to recognize the pattern with Cotton claiming, without any basis, that a duly enacted law and regulation was "unconstitutional" and "lawless", just because he happens to not like it. That is the same stance Republicans have been taking with respect to health care reform and really with respect to any Obama policy whatever it may have been. The refusal to accept and respect duly enacted laws and ultimately the refusal to accept the legitimacy of the sitting government just because the other party won the election is an unprecedented attack on the substance of American democracy. It is much more worrying and dangerous than just a young extremist insulting his political opponents as "foolish", and it ultimately reveals a fascist mindset. This is no laughing matter. If American liberals don't learn to take the fascist threat in columns like Cotton's seriously, they will end up like other liberals before them who also failed to take the fascist threat seriously.

Re: “Thursday roundup: Football, junkets, schools, prayer

"A Conway dentist has been arrested for terroristic threatening for allegedly threatening to kill a state employee attempting to collect delinquent taxes."

That was very poor judgment on his part. He should have known better and made his threat through a Republican web site instead.…

Your optimism is admirable. There's a good writeup about the couple from eLwood at….…

Re: “Lawsuit planned over hog farm in Buffalo River watershed

It seems that Masterson has been extensively and critically covering the CAFO in his columns. The NWA Times also ran an editorial opposing the CAFO. It's good to know that these folks aren't always reflexively pro-corporate. Can this also be said about their Mayflower oil spill coverage (… I wish I could follow everything but I can't.
