Re: “The open line. Plus: Rutledge happy immigrant help blocked

I'm probably to the left of Bernie Sanders in some ways, but Steven E. is right sometimes. Stop attacking the message simply because of the messenger.

We can't have an open border nation -- that's unsustainable foreign policy. NO country has an open border.

And its not racist to use the term "illegal immigrants" if in fact, you come into this country in violation of customs law.

Now, I differ from Miz Leslie and Razorblade in that I don't believe in deportation or mass separation of families. I think immigrants have enriched, not eroded America's greatness.

But damn, the fact remains that people are here illegally. To acknowledge that fact is not racist.

Re: “Governor announces shakeup at Developmental Disabilities Council

@ eLwood -- Developmental Disabilities. Really just provides parent training and conferences. Doles out grant money around the state, but hasn't been as effective as it could be. What kind of services does the family member need? DDC can help secure funds for ramp building for spinal bifida patient for example. Much better agency is ARS -- they have better resources for helping disabled obtain employment, although rumor has it that they are being audited by feds as well for misuse of federal funds as well.

Re: “The midweek open line and headline roundup. Also: Bill Clinton in town; senators target Planned Parenthood

Did anyone else catch that the SOS was closing the State Capitol on the weekends? Supposedly for construction, but it will be closed indefinitely and possible permanently. Not everyone can visit the State Capitol on M-F -- I've frequently seen families and/or tourists milling about on the weekends. It seems crappy to not have it open for them.

Also, did anyone read the story about the employee changes at the Lottery? Somewhere in the original article it mention that a former employee received a salary plus a bonus. I didn't think state employees were allowed to receive bonuses, other than the merit pay for long term state employees. Is this new? Are other state agencies doing this?

Re: “UPDATED: Blue Hog Report: How lobbyist Eric Munson landed high-paying state job with questionable qualifications

You missed noting above that DD Council works in the office with, and reports to the Director of the Health Service Permit Agency. Meaning Eric's boss is Tracy Steele.

Re: “More defense for the Duggars from Arkansas legislators Hester and Woods

I agree with Steven E about this possible affecting the victims of this case. As much as I want to see justice, I hope the media doesn't inadvertently out these girls, and force them to re-live their private pain in public view. Let's not f**k them over a third time. (The second time would be is when "responsible" adults found out about it and did nothing. Except force them to accept an apology.)

Re: “Damascus speed trap in the spotlight

The problem with the speed trap law is that you've got to rely on the local prosecutor to enforce. Now really -- what local prosecutor is going to piss of the mayor and police chief? I think the State Police should be in charge of all complaints and investigations.
