Re: “Walmart plans to build new HQ in Bentonville

Why does the world's largest retailer need assistance from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission? Shouldn't AEDC work on bringing in new economic opportunities?

This sounds like corporate welfare.

Just wonderin!

Re: “Trump nominates Christopher Caldwell to be Delta Regional Authority co-chair

"Trump's proposed budget calls for cutting all funding to the Delta Regional Authority"

Why would anyone take a position with an agency that may not exist in 6 months? I guess one couldn't "mess" things up.

I'm sure the money used to fund the Delta Regional Authority could be put to better use in the Northeast or on the West Coast. Say it with me, "Flyover Country".

Just boiling!

Re: “LRSD settlement with Walker to include redrawing of high school attendance zones

Can we just make John Walker the superintendent of the LRSD? He's the only one who seems to be in control. And we're already paying him a good amount of money.

Just saying.

Re: “Arkansas competes for auto plant

I guess Arkansas will try (again) for the oft-passed-over location in East Arkansas. Some of the things mentioned in the article raise doubts whether Arkansas could ever land a factory like this.

Kristin Dzicek, director of industry, labor and economics at the Center for Automotive Research, was quoted in the article stating, "You have to be able to say you've got the workforce, you've got the land, you've got the transportation systems and rail spurs, community college and education and a place where people want to live."

Is there a sufficient workforce in East Arkansas for a factory of this magnitude? Sure you have Memphis, but would people travel from Memphis to work in Arkansas?

There's plenty of land. Apparently the location of sites previously passed have the transportation and rail spurs. That hasn't been the problem.

What about the community college and education? East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City and Arkansas State University Mid South in West Memphis could provide the education and training needed.

Is East Arkansas (and/or Memphis) a place where people want to live? Memphis, maybe. East Arkansas?

The article goes on to state that Arkansas was a finalist for the last new Toyota plant which, I think went to Texas because it was going to make the Tundra and being made in Texas sounds oh-so-much tougher than being made in Arkansas. At least I heard that comment a few times during the selection process.

The article states that Arkansas is too far away from suppliers. Well, that can't be helped.

In sum, will Arkansas ever be more than an bridesmaid for these huge factories? Does Arkansas really want to land one of these factories?

Just wonderin!

Re: “Trump turns Boy Scout appearance into political youth rally

The sound from the news clips (I know, "fake news") from the Boy Scout Jamboree sounded like the crowd roaring at a Nuremberg rally.

It was quite disturbing.

Just sayin!

Re: “24 charged in Arkansas in massive national medical fraud investigation

Poor ole Rooster!

His house was burgled! He did what everyone does after their house is burgled, called the police! He should have hidden the drug paraphernalia and other evidence of illegal activity better.

Poor ole Rooster!

Just sayin!
