Re: “Trump's two-pronged attack on Obamacare

Q: But the government saves money in the end because of not paying cost sharing reductions, right?!

A: No, the premium tax credit increases are larger than the cost sharing reductions savings. The government pays more, so taxpayers are worse off.

Re: “Trump's two-pronged attack on Obamacare

And there is this.

"Even without an appropriation, the ACA creates an entitlement to cost-sharing reductions. Health plans can vindicate that entitlement before the Court of Federal Claims. Payment would then come from the Judgment Funda permanently appropriated fund to pay court judgments where payment is not otherwise provided for. The question is thus not whether the government will pay, but when.

Re: “Walmart ups its college recruiting game, but it carries homestate baggage

Does anyone show them the cost of living in NWA as compared to NYC or Silicon Valley?

He may be bucking the trend but a Arkansas School of Math and Science classmate of my son who went to MIT and then Goldman Sachs is leaving NYC later this year and moving to Fayetteville.

My son fits the pattern. He is UAFS grad who moved to Bentonville to work in Walmart's IT department.

Re: “Trump engages in junk science in defending end of birth control mandate

And it will only get worse:

Trumps Health Department declares that life begins at conception

This is a politically motivated change, said Guttmacher Institutes Elizabeth Nash. This is not being brought up by public health officials. The medical consensus is a woman is considered pregnant during the implantation of a federalized egg in the wall of the uterus.

Re: “Mike Pence makes political hay from National Anthem; Trump ready for war

From a serving Army officer:

Our national flag and anthem are just that: national. They exist above faction (there is no military flag, though each service has their own). I fail to see the link between the military, especially casualties, and not honoring the national anthem. Perhaps at an official function like a funeral, swearing-in, etc. But public sports are hardly such events; they are not martial ceremonies or only mimic them to the extent the public doesnt understand its military. When did football stadiums of all places become sacrosanct venues of patriotic virtue?

Re: “Fixin-to-die open line

Great reader comment from the Washington Post story on this tweet: "Perhaps instead of playing "Hail to the Chief" when our president enters a room, the Marine Band could play "If I only had a brain.""

And, speaking as someone who did three tours in Korea, unless there has been some major technological breakthrough, there is no military option that doesn't leave Seoul and its satellite cities exposed to thousands of North Korean artillery pieces and missiles.
