Re: “Scouts stranded by high water near Albert Pike

LOL... Camping in Arkansas is rarely about an "enjoyable camping trip". If scouts only camped when it was enjoyable, they would almost never camp, not troops camp once a month regardless of weather.

Re: “Decision on cell phones deferred UPDATE

What about Walnut Ridge? They went exactly the OPPOSITE direction from what LRSD wanted to do... They allowed phones with the restriction that they NOT BE USED IN CLASS (which I suspect the VAST majority of people will think is a valid restriction) and guess what.... No anarchy!…

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that 100% of kids and parents will respect the rules - but it's a heck of a lot easier abiding by rules that make SOME sense than to be subjected to arbitrary rules like the cell ban.

Who else finds it STUPID, that they will confiscate a cell phone that is turned off and in a LOCKED LOCKER? As a parent, I WANT my daughter to have her phone on the way too and from school, yet if there isn’t a medical need, it’s not allowed.

Consider the following "minor" LRSD Category 1 offenses: Possession of mace, chemical agents, multi-fingered rings (we called these brass knuckles when I was growing up) or fireworks, skipping school, insubordination and smoking. Now consider the following “more serious” Category 2 offenses: assault, battery, theft, theft by receiving, bullying, fighting, sexual misconduct, indecent exposure, slander, breaking and entering, vandalism, forgery…. Oh, and possession of a cell phone! At least they didn’t make it a Category 3 offense like, arson, drug sales, possession of a gun or assault on a teacher. I guess we have something to be thankful for.

Come on! Is it any wonder the kids (and parents) think the LRSD school board is full of it? If you think I’m making this up, feel free to read the LRSD student handbook, it’s on their web site.
