Re: “The Tea Party reading list

Fourche Mt. Hermit, can you tell in detail about ANY culture in history that did not suffer at the hands of "safety nets" offered by chiefs, kings, queens, dictators, popes, despots, grand poobahs, etc? If there WERE any, which ones were not invaded and victimized, even eliminated by more advanced rulers from other countries, mostly because of the resources (human labor being the most valuable resource) available.
Your praise for European culture lacks a touch of reality. Most of Europe consists of nothing more than better-dressed "subjects" than in the Dark Ages. Modern day government "management" is more about psychology than fear when they control the public mentality. Rather than stockades, guillotines and torture, clever "soft-sell" is used to keep everyone mesmerized. Apparently you don't recognize a good "con job" when you see one.
Mr's Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Ping, Castro, Pot, etc, etc, etc, didn't quite have the soft sell routine in mind, but the EU certainly has learned it well. You are suggesting I need to keep grazing like a good little sheep and take a nice nap on my Socialist vacation from reality? Have some more coffee, very black, very strong. It blows my mind how a majority of humanity falls into the peasant/subject role so easily, and though even with high levels of academic achievement, the wisdom to recognize that government's HISTORIC addiction to control overpowers its "supposed" role and obligations to the people. You guys on the Left are always dancing with disaster asking Big G government to watch out for you. NOW, even the RIGHT is doing their own samba with "Dictatorship Lite". Just how stupid and needy of management have we become???
If you condensed everything Ron Paul has said during his entire political career, put it in one short paragraph, it might read like this...
" Think for yourself, carry your own weight, help your neighbor if they truly need it, never lose sight of your human value, learn to help yourself before you try to help others, learn first and then mentor, have respect for others and their human value, and never trust your future to a person, group or entity who professes to know what's best for you...unless you are 5 years old and that person is your parent. "

Libertarian-Schmibertarian.. Tea Party....forget the labels. Would you agree that it's time to raise the bar for individual responsibility "on the public level" for each of us? We are a fat, lazy country today, with more self interest than public interest. We are seen by our "handlers", Dems and Reps alike, as a "herd", and we are willingly walking down that chute that's been built for us by those who know "what we need" better than we do. Do you truly know what's at the end of that chute Mt. Hermit? Has there EVER, in the history of our species, been anything beneficial to the individual at the end of those chutes? Well? Are you believing that the EU chute will be the "magic chute"? It is up to US in the U.S. to show all the former "subjects" and victims in the world that a "population" can successfully manage its "government", something that's never been done before. No, you're wrong...European Socialism is not a success.. Sorry..
