Re: “Another PAC-woman candidate

I don't know about financial PAC backing for Luke Heffley, but he evidently has support of some kind from Huckabee's PAC: http://www.huckpac.com/2018/1/luke-hefley-…

Re: “NRA seems to relent on 'bump stocks'

Scant progress. The blood of this tragedy is shared by Congress in general, and the Republicans in particular. Recall that the Bush Administration allowed the already-in-place assault weapon ban to expire. Congress failed to institute a new ban. The Las Vegas shooter would have had a much harder time assembling his arsenal of assault weapons if he couldn't just head to the local department store or gun shop. Further, after Sandy Hook there was an effort to limit the size of gun clips...again the shooter wouldn't have easy access to high volume clips, but Congress chose not to buck the NRA and their campaign dollars. Same with proposed legislation requiring background checks on gun-show purchases (in spite of wide public support for such a requirement). Congress also consistently stood in the way of ATF maintaining records of multiple gun purchases or large quantities of ammunition. Perhaps such records could have alerted authorities to this shooter and resulted in questioning him about the purchases. We will never know if any of these measures would have had an effect, and we will likely never know if they can prevent future tragedies. None of these proposals will move forward, especially now that the NRA has given their blessing to a nearly meaningless "restriction" that exists primarily to give Congress cover under the illusion that they are actually doing something.

Re: “Sen. Jason Rapert (R-Conway and Tel Aviv)

The book is an abortion-related book, naturally since that is Bro' Rapert's obsession.

Re: “Trump supporters 'deplorable'? Numbers don't lie

While Hillary's observation/comment is an accurate assessment, it is a lousy campaign tactic. By succumbing to name-calling, HRC lowers herself closer to the level of her opponent. She would do better with undecideds and independents by maintaining the high ground and focusing on a positive message. She is getting poor advice by her handlers, and not demonstrating astute judgement herself. Plus, she can't win an argument based on ad hominem attacks...Trump has mastered the insult politics.

Re: “Duggar TV about a paycheck? Say it ain't so.

Just came across this Washington Post story in another context (so perhaps it has already been shared on the AT Blog). It seems the counseling center Josh Duggar was sent to for rehab of his sexual issues has some "issues" of its own. Not clear what kind of lesson he was sent there to learn.

Re: “Jason Rapert: Judge Wendell Griffen "not worthy of the title 'minister'"

There seems to be no limit to the breadth and depth of Rapert's ass-holiness.
