Book notes

UA Press publishes “During Wind and Rain: The Jones Family Farm in the Arkansas Delta: 1848-2006” ($16.95, paperback) this month. Margaret Jones Bolsterli, a longtime literature professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, documents five generations of her ancestors working a South Arkansas farm. The book moves from her family's acquisition of the land in 1848 through a run of great calamities — the Civil War, Reconstruction, the 1927 flood, the Great Depression and the drought of 1930 — on to modern considerations like mechanization and pesticides.
