Re: “Skirmish in Fayetteville over Rebel flag at biker rally

Well, I for one am ashamed of today's youth. Or at least that specific group of youth. Even more than I was ashamed of being a youth in my own generation. And that's saying something. (I'm 30.)

Re: “Dope, dice, death

How has no one commented on this yet? It is flat-out unconscionable that those five justices should have ANYTHING do to with that proposal other than reading it and recusing themselves! Or at least passing it straight to the people on the grounds that they have a far too vested interest in the outcome of such a vote. I would say it baffles me how people with such loose morals and ethical boundaries wind up in power, but that's basically how they end up in powerful positions.

Re: “LR pays for 141 cops to commute outside city in cop cars

I did work in HR. Without disclosing too much, I will say that there honestly weren't a lot of LR residents applying. And it IS a pretty rigorous process the applicants have to go through. It's definitely not a regular application process and it takes quite a while for an applicant to hear anything back. I think sometimes people have even forgotten they applied to be an LR police officer or thought that they simply hadn't received notification they didn't make the cut.

Re: “LR pays for 141 cops to commute outside city in cop cars

As a former City employee, I can guarantee that the City is crunching its numbers on that topic now. And I'm frankly surprised they weren't before. In my department, I know we had to be very scrupulous about taking down the mileage on the pool cars (that is, the cars that were shared by many that were allowed to sign-out and drive City-owned vehicles). I'm quite taken aback that individuals with personal vehicles aren't required to keep vehicle logs on things like mileage and gas. That's the sort of information one should be able to request under FOIA.
