Bruce James calls the Hogs

Saturday’s game

Arkansas (2-5, 0-4 in SEC) vs. South Carolina (5-3, 3-3 in SEC)

Site: Reynolds Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville

Time: 11:30 a.m.

Radio/TV: The ARSN network will broadcast the game on radio affiliates. Jefferson-Pilot will broadcast the game on KATV, Channel 7, in Little Rock and other TV stations statewide.

What James says: South Carolina is a scrappy ball club but it has better coaches than it does players right now. I thought Tennessee basi-cally gave them the ball game Saturday (USC won 16-15 at Knoxville). Really, the thing that South Carolina has a problem with is the running game, and Arkansas does that well. Arkansas has much better players and much more depth than South Carolina. Arkansas will wear them down with the run.

Arkansas’s change at QB: With Casey Dick in there, it probably will add a little bit more to the passing game. South Carolina will probably do a lot of blitzing, especially on a new quarterback, so they will be very susceptible to Arkansas breaking big runs.

The pick: Arkansas, 31-24. Another big thing here is, will South Carolina be reading their press clips, because it’s the first time they’ve beaten Tennessee at Knoxville and the first time they’ve beaten them period since 1992. I think Arkansas will pretty much handle them.

Watch former Arkansas All-American defensive end Bruce James along with David Bazzel and host Steve Sullivan on KATV, Channel 7’s “Sports-Week” Sundays at 10:30 p.m.

No. 8 Arkansas (10-2 overall, 7-1 in SEC) vs. No. 4 Florida (11-1 overall, 7-1 in SEC): Arkansas will try to offset some of Florida’s speed and quickness on defense with a shorter passing games, screen passes, and running the football consistently.

Last Saturday's game against Tennessee was the most consistent offensively and defensively that Arkansas has played in at least 15 years.

This is the toughest call on a game since I’ve been picking them in these pages. I can find as many reasons why Arkansas could win as I can that South Carolina will win.

I don’t have a great feeling about Arkansas winning the football game.
