Re: “Divvying up the state's surplus money

I understand that there are a lot of programs in AR that could use a financial boost, but what about a pay raise for state employees? It's been at least 3 years since they've gotten anything! Last year was a "bonus" which was much better than nothing, but it does nothing to show an improvement economically for state employees.

Re: “My letter to Iris Cross of BP

I read this last week before going down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and really hoped that you were wrong about the oil still being there and the shortage of shrimp. I am now back in Arkansas, and have picture proof of the oil. I saw it on the beach in Biloxi on more than one occasion while I was there. As far as the shortage of shrimp, I was told by an old shrimper that there is a shortage, but I cannot vouch for that...I know the prices on the fresh shrimp was absolutely wonderful compared to that "fresh" shrimp bought locally. It was $4.99 a pound for medium sized (fresh off the boat) shrimp versus $17.99 a pound for "fresh" shrimp at the local meat market. I grew up on that infamous Mississippi Coast, and it hurt my heart to see that oil line in the sand. I was also told by a friend who lives down there that a lot of the people that have applied for the income replacement money from BP are not getting it, and that most of them were people that lost their livihood due to the oil. I guess that it is important to remind people that you cannot believe everything you see on the television.

Re: “Pryor wins vote on death benefit for Arkansas guardsman

As stated in the comments section of the first article that was printed on this, this soldier was still on orders, so there is no question that the death benefits SHOULD HAVE been paid. During a period of orders the soldier is considered active duty from the beginning date to the ending date, no matter where they happen to be. Good job Sen. Pryor for sticking up for the little person in this issue. It's good to know that you saw the fault here and stepped up to fix it.

Re: “Stanley Reed dies in auto accident

That anyone might suggest that this was anything other than an accident (whether health related or not) is very sad. The fact that he was in the running (to the finish) for a job that required intense scrutiny from the media and public shows that he was a good man. His family and friends are hurting, and someone hiding behind the anonominity of the internet felt that it might be worthy of the moment to suggest something that no one else would want to think/believe. That's like approaching the family member of a dead relative and asking them "How do you feel right now?"...THUMBS DOWN!
