Re: “Reports: Judge's son in Hot Springs death

I have gotten in the car with my then two-year-olds and made it miles from home before one mentioned that I forgot the buckles. They are five now and I drove away from the house with my daughters after-swim clothes on top of the car, last week. Sleep deprivation, working twice as hard at the office to compensate for the fact that i have to leave to make a daycare pick-up, all of these things contribute to forgetfulness. There is a difference between forgetting a child and intentionally leaving your kids in the car like the incidents cited by the commenter above.

This article explains it well. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html

As an exhausted parent, this is one of my greatest fears. The police will do a thorough investigation and that will reveal all of the facts, but from here it looks like a loving parent made an unthinkable mistake and if you do not believe you are capable of doing the same, you are in denial of your own humanity.

I send my sincere prayers for hope and healing to this family.
