Re: “Vandals strike Mt. Holly Cemetery, severely damage several monuments and statues

This just shows that we already have the spirit of ISIS in the hearts of our own citizens. This is truly a heartbreaking event. I love that cemetery and hope the damage can be repaired. It is time that the city of Little Rock step up to the plate and provide funding for at least CC cameras for the cemetery.

Re: “Goose coalition breaks with NLR over new ordinance UPDATE

What amazes me about all of this is how willing people are to give away the power that was bestowed on them by the Founding Fathers of the United States. How unwilling people are to really get involved and identify abuses of power when they occur and to challenge them. This is only about geese on the surface. Ultimately it is about a mayor and a city council who have conspired together to rob the citizens of North Little Rock of a voice in how the city is governed. And it is about people who are willing to be robbed of their power. Even the city council is willing to vote away its own power. When have you ever heard of a politican willingly giving away power? If the city council votes in this ordinance tonight (which they will because they always vote in everything Hays proposes) then they are actually voting away their right to challenge the mayor and their responsibility to be the voice of the people. When politicans start willingly giving away their power then you can bet that there is something dirty and corrupt going on somewhere. Why is there no one looking for the unlying motives here? I am opposed to the hunt, think it is stupid, puts NLR and Arkansas in a bad light, and it is not an effective long-term solution to the problem. But goose lovers and goose haters alike should be outraged at how this has been handled by NLR city officials. They are so busy trying to do things to the citizens that they have completely lost sight of the fact that they were elected to serve the people. If they are not serving the people, which they are not, then who are they serving? Themselves only.

Re: “UPDATE: Pat Hays says no decision yet on re-election

I am a NLR resident who talked to one of the female alderman on the phone night before last. I would like to quote what she said to me. She said, "The citizens of North Little Rock are going to be unhappy with anything we do. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't so we are going to do what we want to do and what we think is best and the citizens will just have to live with that.".

The distain these aldermen show for their constituents is appalling but the attitude is pervasive in the city employees. Over half the time you are treated rudely when you call a city office on the phone.

The new ranger, who thinks that migratory birds are not here in the winter but come in June and July, said in the Oct. 17, 2011, NLR Parks and Recreation meeting that "The public may not like the hunt, but the public doesn't always know what is best.". Again, distain for the citizens of NLR and she learned it quickly. This from a park ranger who does not know that geese fly south(that's us) in the fall and north in the spring. Appalling! And this is the person who advised the city to remove the geese by hunting them. She used coyote cutouts, cardboard coyotes, as her non-lethal means of dealing with the geese. A goose is a goose but even a goose knows that something that doesn't move is not a predator.

We are in bad shape in this city and I doubt that it is repairable. Everyone who runs lies to get elected and then does whatever they want to do. None of them have any integrity.
