Re: “Why UA student senate rejected resolution against Rebel flag. Sad!

I am from Arkansas. My family goes back to the 1830's in Arkansas. My feelings on the rebel flag: That flag represents our heritage. How many in Arkansas do you think owned slaves? How many in Arkansas joined the Confederate Army because they wanted the federal government out of their business? Like it or not, those from North Arkansas who fought on the side of the South only wanted the federal government to leave them alone. They had already suffered enough at the hands of the fed. Most of those in the mountains were Indian or had at least one relative who was Indian. I had ggrandparents who were Indian. My family kept it very quiet because at that time, Indians were still considered less than anything else in the animal kingdom. So, yes, my ancestors fought and did so in hopes of getting the federal government out of their lives once and for all. That flag represents hatred and rebellion at the meddling and thievery of the federal government. That is why we defend that flag.
