"So let's see... the president's daughter is filling in on foreign policy meetings, his son-in-law is negotiating foreign policy, and his wife is now firing government officials? How is this a democracy?" - Alt Fed Employee Tweet

"Ok, but I bet Melania is too chicken to fire her husband." - Stephen Colbert

"The GOP's greatest trick was getting followers of Jesus to vote against everything Jesus ever talked about by talking about abortion, which Jesus never talked about." - John Fugelsang

THE SCORE, EARLY IN THE FIRST INNING:

Re: “Tom Cotton pats himself on the back for defeating Clarke Tucker

Cotton is another of those GOP politicians who are in the dark about the transformation of the two parties with the "Southernization" strategy launched by Barry Goldwater in 1964 to replace GOP leadership provided by northern progressive Republicans with disgruntled southern Democrats led by Strom Thurmond and others.

Re: “Tuesday: The open line and daily news video

Were it left up to me to decide whether we should have a government with newspapers or newspapers without government, I would not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.----Thomas Jefferson

In certain nations today, politicians have taken over and have muzzled the press with censorship. In no country today has the press taken over a country and muzzled the politicians.---David Brinkley

We trust the democratic experience will end in establishing the fact that man may be governed with reason and truth. Our first objective should, therefore, be to leave open to him all the avenues of truth. The most effective hitherto found is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigations of their actions.---Thomas Jefferson
