Re: “Shale shock

Sorry about a second posting, but here's some further thoughts. While protection is given to all sorts of individuals for various reasons and is a growth industry in our country, a landowner can still be screwed. Ok, Yanke has some money and is not a poor landowner. Still, he was able to get controversial with this. A poor landowner would usually take the money and run. The hell with the land. This is still not democracy...it is pure and savage money takes all. And the little guy could and should get more profit out of this if it is going to happen. We need energy but it has to be balanced with controls. Someone sat around researching mineral rights in various states and found those ready for a sucker punch. A stinking shame...

Re: “Shale shock

Reading this is sickening...and as stated it goes back to the RR's owning a lot of the land there. Now, considering that Arkansas has had some smart politicians who have even become president, I'm sort of amazed that no one has changed that law on the grounds of infringement..i.e., those mineral rights were sold during a time when there were a lot less people and the number of chemicals used was smaller. In other words, you were desecrating open land. Now, things have changed. And what further interests me is from whom the gas companies are buying the mineral rights. The railroads? Or, did someone buy them up recently and then resell them? How many times have they changed hands? Arkansas needs some minds working on this...
