Mike was always an Arkansas original.

Hill Hall at U of A is now long gone, but it heartens me to read of others' memories of Mike in that cozy old building, at the Traveler and at the PR office. He was a wonderful fixture in that place, as I remember, sitting in a desk in the stairway landing between the first and second floors, smoking and blowing the smoke out the open window, just as he hung out on the landing of stairways between different worlds, journalism and public relations, politics and art, belief and satire.

I love hearing everyone's stories of the impact of the seemingly small things he did, seemingly insignificant, unobtrusive things, yet the effect they had was like gravity, wide-ranging and transformative. He changed us.
