Re: “Human Rights in Fayetteville: Maybe it's time to push the envelope again?

Great article, Richard. I, for one, wasn't aware of the 1998 debacle (didn't live here), and am so disappointed to hear about that.

I wonder if it would be the same failure if we tried again to get that sort of legislation. I'd like to think that within the city we have a progressive enough legislature to cut the crap and get this through. I'd be surprised if Mayor Jordan would EVER veto something like that.

One telling sign would be the Gay Pride parade last week-- and I agree, it's "not enough"-- but there were VERY few protesters, and the few that came were respectful and quiet. The thousands of emails the mayor apparently received weren't even from Fayetteville but from some national Hate Group for "family values" (HA! I can't imagine the hateful families these jerks must come from). I think we CAN pass this sort of legislation, and agree wholeheartedly that it's time that we try again.

I have never had more pride in my city than when I was at the Gay Pride parade last week. Let's keep this momentum going!
