Re: “College scholarships lure people to El Dorado

Regardless, it has to be good, doesn't it? A rising tide, and all of that....

Max, no mention that this research was conducted by the U of A researchers whose work you usually pan?

Re: “Speak no ill of charter schools

"if your kid’s whole future depends on winning the lottery, you’re incompetent." Or you are just a poor family who can't afford to move to a district with a school that fits your child's needs. Maybe not even a better school, but just one where you think your child will flourish. To suggest otherwise seems a bit narrow-minded, and in a word, douchey.

I'm not saying that charter schools are the answer, but to demean those families who feel that is best for their children is pretty insensitive to the individual needs of these people.

Re: “Little Rock's case on charter schools

PorkPhat & Arkansastraveler:

In 2009-10, the eStem schools were 48.0% black, 40.9% white, and 5.9% hispanic, FYI.

Durango & Max,

Points duly noted...thanks for the clarification.

Re: “Can't we get along?

Not to be argumentative with your numbers Durango, but according to the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2006-2008, see the link below), 39.0% of adults in the LR area have a bachelor's degree or higher. In Fayetteville, that percentage is 43.6%. Think the Times has it's numbers wrong, and it's facts....

Re: “Fun with numbers: eStem charter v. LRSD

Jake,

I totally agree with you, which is why I think these comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt, IMHO.
