Re: “Is Hutchinson's line-item veto scheme legal?

Sounds like this could have been a fairly clever "sting" conceived by the Tyranical Ten to get the amendment defunding Arkansas Wroks through to the gov's office, then challenge his veto citing AG Bryant's earlier opinions, and ultimately the scheme falls apart and we're stuck with the budget the Tyranical Ten wanted. Thankfully there were enough Dems unwilling to capitulate and who didn't let this scheme get off the ground. (yet?)

Re: “House passes cursive writing mandate

Is there perhaps a bigger issue at play here? I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable right now in that by my scorecard, Nate Bell in the early going of this session has done 2 things that I agree with and laud him for -- (1) pushing to separate Lee from MLK observance; and (2) showing common sense speaking out against mandating cursive at the state level. If Nate Bell is coming down on the side of reason and rational thought, my whole world construct is akimbo.

Re: “Mayor begs for people to buy Razorback tickets. It's the long Hog goodbye.

Several years ago Little Rock games became just awful to attend. There became such a "Country Come To Town" element in and around the stadium with a large portion of the crowd seemingly there only to see how high they can get their blood alcohol content. I am a perfect 3-for-3 in my last 3 trips to WMS in seeing someone in my section puke on himself/herself. It's not the type of place I would take my kids. The golf course is full of idiots, and then they all file into the confined space of the stadium. I prefer to watch on tv because the morons have made the experience unbearable. For whatever reason, that element has not taken over Fayetteville. The atmosphere around the stadium before the game is fun and festive, and it's something I can enjoy with my wife and kids. Inside the stadium, while you always have the know-it-alls sitting around you, I have not had to dodge any projectile vomit at Razorback Stadium. For my money, they can't drop the Little Rock games quickly enough. Move 'em all to the Hill.

Re: “Sen. Jason Rapert reacts to Beverly Carter's death with proposal to abolish parole in Arkansas

When shall I plan to read in the Demozette about Rapert taking Mike Huckabee to task over Wayne Dumond? Do you recommend I hold my breath?

Re: “UPDATE: More from accident reconstructionist in Hastings trial

The question I would want to know is whether or not the car in question had Positraction.

Re: “A defense of the trolley

I moved my family from LR to KC about a year ago. As a life-long Arkansan and LR resident for over 15 years, that was a tough move. We had family and friends and a great life in Little Rock. But a boss I trusted made me a compelling offer to come work for him. That said, the job offer was not the only consideration. One of the things that tipped the scale for me to move to a completely foreign - and non-southern (the horror!) - city was the way that Kansas City and the surrounding suburbs paid attention to the details that contribute to a great quality of life. When we visited, we saw fountains - lots of them and well maintained; parks and plazas with riding and biking trails throughout the city. There were multiple ways to get around, from well-routed bike trails, to a reliable and affordable bus that runs from downtown, all the way out to the affluent Johnson County suburbs. And that bus is utilized! We saw clean, new centers of commerce and school districts eager to educate and form our kids. We saw world-class athletics facilities for our kids (35 heated and lighted turf soccer fields....40+ baseball and softball fields), we saw a community with more than a dozen public pools at a low price that rival many an expensive water park.

For us, leaving LR was a huge change. We would not have left there for just any town. And even though the new job was a great career step, I do not know if we would have taken that leap if Kansas City and the surrounding area had not shown us that they care about quality of life enough to invest so heavliy in it.

Re: “Penn State fined $60 million

I don't think the loss of scholarships is 20 total. As i read it, there is a reduction of 10 immediately, and then a reduction of 20 PER YEAR for the next 4, limiting them to only 65 scholarship players through 2016.
