Re: “Remembering Rosey

I love that this dialogue was started and that we all love Rosey. I am so happy that I am a graduate of Little Rock Central High School... and that I knew Rosey and his friends who have posted here.

Re: “Remembering Rosey

Dear FBL—
It amazes me that a person who did not know Rosey would even venture to second guess what factors led to his genius, heart, and the influence he had on classmates and teachers alike. Myriad things make up all of us: parental influence is certainly influential; for some, religion plays a part; others find beauty and strength in things unseen and not captured by religious doctrine. The Rosey I knew believed in individual potential and the strength of communities, which are, in part, shaped by our government and principles of democracy. The Rosey I knew believed in fairness and knew that many in America (and all over the world) are born into poverty and need both private and public resources to thrive and, in some cases, survive at all. The Rosey I knew had “Faith,” but in things I believe surpassed the conservative lens through which you apparently view things. Rosey was complex. His genius was complex. We are all complex beings, as are our communities, schools, belief systems, and perceptions of the world. It is too bad you did not know him personally. He might have been able to teach you something and introduce you to a more gentle and interesting world.
