Re: “Veggie breakfast at the Root: the good, bad and ugly

Wow, I had no idea when I picked my friend up at the airport and headed to The Root Cafe for a late breakfast that a political firestorm would ensue. I am the patron Ms. Cheree Franco could not help herself from wanting to set straight. What a surreal experience to have someone catch a fragment of your private conversation, approach your table and commence to rant, lecture and name call. Even after politely asking Ms. Franco to please end the conversation, she continued on...and on. It was at this point that the owner, in an effort to defuse an awkward situation, interjected a very benign comment. The writer chose to slant this comment, as she did mine, to suit her agenda.

To set the record straight - I am not opposed to a Vet center. Our veterans' deserve our gratitude, respect and support. However, a Vet center that serves primarily drug addicted and mentally ill homeless in such close proximity to our homes, schools and businesses leaves us vulnerable to even more crime, of which there is already plenty. I feel it is not the right location, my opinion of course, but unfortunately overheard by Ms. Franco.

It's too bad Ms. Franco did not dedicate more space to the food she was supposedly there to cover. It is some of the best in town, although that too, is just my opinion.
