Re: “It was a good week for Charles Robinson

WOW!!! did i read that correctly? Dassault gets "State rebates, $2 million from the governor's quick action closing fund and $43 million in incentives from the airport !!!" Where does an airport get $43 MILLION to give to a company in incentives????

Re: “UPDATE: Community Correction director David Eberhard retires

Mr Eberhard is a good man. His goal was to help parolees get their lives together if at all possible. His thoughts about how DCC should be run, and the legislators' aren't anywhere near the same. And the arm chair quarterbacks that think they have all the answers caused Arkansas to lose a good man in my opinion

Re: “DCC director called in to Beebe office: UPDATE

Arkansas has a large number of people on parole and probation - just like other states. I would bet the number is in excess of 25,000 people on probation and parole here.
The employees at the DCC do not make the laws - they have to do their within the laws ( see comment above) of the state of Arkansas enacted by our state legislators and the director of the DCC has to make sure his or her employees are doing their jobs. My guess is there are probably about 400 folks that are tasked with keeping up with people on parole or probation . Do the math. That is a LOT of people to keep up with.
Most of the people on probation or parole are trying to get their lives back together. But, there WILL ALWAYS BE THUGS like this guy.
And this is not the first time this has happened - here in Arkansas or elsewhere.
We can not affordably build enough prisons to house everyone that is a target of law enforcement and legislators that want to "get tough on crime" during every election cycle. And we can not do away with parole and probation. Prisons are EXPENSIVE TO BUILD - and knee jerk politicians that LOVE to stir up controversy but have no real answers will NEVER want to raise taxes enough to build prison after prison to house these people. And it would be silly to even try. The state DCC and the prisons, and all the jails / prisons within the state
are under scrutiny and budgets just like everyone. They all want more prison space. All these areas of government have to work within budgets and space limitations

Mayor Stodola says most crime in Little Rock is because of people on parole and probation. That does not appear to be true. NO ONE will call him on it though. I believe his statements were examined and were found to be UNTRUE. Out of about 100 criminals he sent over in a report about crime in Little Rock very few were on probation or parole.

We incarcerate a huge proportion of our population in the US . We have a LOT of people on parole or probation too. And we make it very difficult for the ones trying to improve their lives when stuff like this happens because we NEVER solve the underlying problems. Knee jerk politicians think they have ALL THE ANSWERS - but typically they are just trying to further their political ambitions and these problems never get resolved. ( and they do not know anything about running these departments any way ) The media does not make it any better when they allow writers to mis- state facts and not fully examine what they put out in public as facts.

Re: “LRPD license plate scanner raises privacy issues

I wish that people were more concerned about our privacy. If people were as concerned about privacy as people are about guns something would get done. People wake up- the government does NOT CARE OR WANT YOUR GUNS. They want your emails, cell phone conversations, license plate numbers, what you look at on the web. And guess what - they have it because no one is paying attention and the ACLU, the only folks that TRY to stop some of this can't do anything about most of it because our government says they are just using the info to "fight terrorism" and "win the war on drugs"....

Re: “UPDATES: Republican candidate Fuqua endorses death penalty for rebellious children

How is this guy any different than Muslims trying to enforce sharia law? Extremism is never the answer. This guy should never be elected to ANYTHING. Maybe we should stone him for bring such an idiot.

Re: “Yarnell's ice cream closes after 78 years

I went by the plant today and it looks like they are back making ice cream again. I hope they succeed.
