Re: “Faulkner jury awards $5.2 million in nursing home negligence case

I'm so damn sick of the medical establishment, especially nursing home care. There's not much best practice and you can get different answers from different caretakers. Both my parents with fatal interactions there. They all seem caring, to be sure, but they aren't all competent and thorough, and the reason is probably understaffing. How can there be only one doctor in a nursing home? Each shift gives different answers, and they don't communicate among each other. And if you point out discrepancies in care they talk and talk and talk in the hopes you don't notice they're just trying to avoid any responsibility.

But healthcare is one of the best career paths, right? Even slight negligence causes a problem, which has an effect and requires meds, which prevents treatment for the initial issue, which causes more suffering. Once the damage is done, it's done. And negligence will happen even if you've carefully chosen a nursing home and it comes highly recommended, and even though a family member is at bedside for hours a day monitoring and trying to hold them to the professional standards they are licensed for.

It's a broken, broken system. Doctors are part of the problem, but how the government health system has evolved is part, and don't forget the insurance blobs. Citizens are asleep at the wheel.
