"There is widespread misunderstanding of the historic theological structure of the Southern Baptists. Unlike most denominations, they are not a hierarchical church and no one body speaks for the local church. For two days messengers from representative churches come together for the convention and pass resolutions. These functions as guidelines, but not as mandates - Baptists are a "non-creedal" people. In recent years, even this fundamental aspect of Southern Baptist life has been co-opted by convention leadership, even to the point of disfellowshipping churches who do not comply to their edicts."

I'm not a Southern Baptist (rather a Northern Presbyterian) so can someone explain if the above quote (from the fake "press release") is true????
