Re: “Emergency transport lacking after fight that proved fatal

I'm a longtime friend of Brett's, and have been in contact with quite a few folks about all this following this horrific crime. It's not as simple as "someone should have driven him." Several on the scene, of course, wanted to drive him themselves. They were told not to do this bc his condition was clearly very serious and it was absolutely vital that he be transported with the proper equipment and staffing. Some are feeling very guilty about not taking him, but he likely would not have made it and I hate that they are second-guessing themselves. Obviously, the policy on having to retain an amulance in the county was nonsensical here. You cannot transport someone who will die if they don't get better help fast so you can keep an amulance around FOR EXACTLY what? It's all infuriating and so very stupid. I honestly feel there will be good that comes from his terrible (on so many levels) episode. I am sure his parents (who live in Little Rock) will file suit and I also am betting the proceeds of much of that will be used to ensure this doesn't happen again ... maybe another ambulance, rules changes, etc. Peace, Dana Caldwell
