Re: “Harris blames adoption woes on Department of Human Services

After listening to Harris' video & reading all the ideas presented here, my feeling is that,
1. Harris is fabricating parts of his story; He had to have known about the Francis criminal record & could have easily had access to it through his State job. You don't take the wife's word for it that he had a clean record! and,
2. DHS is also to blame for not disclosing fully how damaged these girls are & for placing them in a family with older children & pets. They should have known the risks & not even allowed the placement. Secondly, why would they allow an adoption of a sexually damaged child to a super religious family (a Tea Party candidate to boot) who typically blame women & girls should they be raped or molested. If he imposed his Tea Party/Religious beliefs on those kids, I'd be screaming too! Wrong move DHS!

I do think Harris should be removed from office. The State of KS needs people who are honest & progressive. What they don't need is a religious nut who writes bills that reflect his own religious beliefs without considering everybody in the state. The other right wing politicians who are supporting him should be removed from office too. These politicians are the same ones who support not teaching Science in KS schools & supporting the Biblical idea that there is no Big Bang that happened or that we are evolved from apes. He is obviously lying and is doing everything he can to retain his State office. He didn't seem very concerned about those kids at all. Makes me wonder why they adopted them in the first place. Could it have been that they were adopted for political purposes, like making him look good in campaign material?

I hope those girls are happy now & living in a home with love & support. They will heal in that kind of environment. I know that kids who have the kinds of issues these children do are hard to deal with, they make sexual overtures to others, can be violent when cornered and will make living with them Hell if they don't like where they are. They are old enough & have gone through enough to make them very wise about fake people. They are different from other kids because of the sexual molestation & they know it. They need constant help to erase their guilt so that they can feel normal again. I don't think the Harris's were able to deal with that kind of emotional disturbance & DFS should have known that in the beginning. I say 'should have'. Social workers who work for DFS have had college courses dealing the abused children & the kind of homes that work best for them. Why didn't they know this or did they just not care. I'm certainly not absolving the Harris' of guilt in this. What kind of people would put children that they supposedly 'loved' in another home without approval from the State. These were children. It's like giving away a puppy because he brings mud into your pristine house! I believe love was absent & those kids knew it.
