Re: “Oren Paris gets three years for Christian college kickback scheme

My apologies, Earl! I meant to direct my remarks to "JulieM"

Re: “Oren Paris gets three years for Christian college kickback scheme

I wish I could respond to individuals on this board who made ignorant remarks based on their personal opinions of what happened in this case. One would at least hope people would actually read before posting. Many of the questions posed were already answered. If I can single out "Earl" from a few remarks prior to mine who said "And, what did you think you were doing when, instead of improving your campus, you paid your family members over 1 mil for various positions at the college?" The facts of the case will clearly point out the all of the money granted to the school was used for the exact description in their grant applications, as well as their requests made to the committee in Little Rock on two occasions. Thus, the judge's decision to not have the school pay the money back. Also, the source of your other "1 million for various positions at the college" bit of information. That line came from a very amateurly-written piece by a reporter who was more concerned with her personal opinions than an objective look at the facts. If you do the actually mathematics involved with the family employees at the school and the one million dollars mentioned, you will find that the school's finances clearly show that Oren had 6 relatives that service in various positions at the school. This reporter added up their salaries/pay over 5 years and came to that number (having nothing to do with the grant money and its use). You do the math - 6 employees x 5 years of salary... The "$1 million paid to family members" simply lets you know that their average pay those employees made was about $33,000 per year. Oren committed a crime, and for that he's going to be separated from his wife and 4 children for 3 years. However, none of you commenting thus far have any idea what crime he was actually convicted of, nor do I imagine you care. You should probably be asking yourselves what that says about you.
